ABSTRACT

N Na Bolom Na Bolom, Tzotzil for ‘the house of the Jaguar’, is a Mayan studies centre, library and hotel in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, founded in 1950 by archaeologist Frans Blom and his wife, the Swiss photographer and journalist Gertrude Duby Blom. Na Bolom is a mecca for Mayanists and a champion of the Lacandon Indians and the rainforest they inhabit. Following the deaths of Blom in 1963 and Duby in 1994, the museum is being renovated by Walter ‘Chip’ Morris, a scholar of contemporary highland Mayan textiles and author of Living Maya (1987).
