ABSTRACT

With Parahyba mulher macho (Parahyba, Macho Woman) (1983), based on a historical work by Jose Joffily, Yamasaki takes a more political and feminist turn, focusing on Anayde Beiriz (Tania Alves), a poet and Bohemian who also happened to be the lover of Joao Dantas. Dantas’s assassination of politician Joao Pessoa unleashed a series of events leading to the revolution of 1930.
