ABSTRACT
‘Police culture’ has been a lasting topic of interest and debate in the field of police studies for the past fifty or so years, a constant presence in policies, politics and public discussions about policing, and a ‘convenient label for a range of negative values, attitudes, and practice norms among police officers’ (Chan 1996, p. 110). When people think of ‘the police’ and ‘policing’ it is more than likely that images generated by ideas about police culture will spring to mind.
