ABSTRACT

Sensory function is a complex concept and not all practitioners who support a child's learning will be familiar with it. However, all adults who work with the child have a responsibility to ensure that information of good quality is presented to the child in consistent ways that are relevant and have meaning to that particular individual. We have stressed how the combination of multiple disabilities affects each child differently and an obvious corollary of this is that those working with the child will need to know how to present information to the child of sufficient quality to optimise their sensory function.
