Most interactions use discussion in some way to share ideas but a dialogue is about reaching a common understanding and reaching an agreed consensus; in other words it is about the negotiation and compromise that allow tasks to move forward to completion rather than go round in ever decreasing circles. Children need to learn to sustain their talk in order to reach an agreement.To do this, they need to learn how to resolve differences without coming to blows!
