ABSTRACT
Of all the phenomena invoked to explain the environmental problems occurring on the African continent, and in particular the countries of the Sahel, the continued and rapid increase in population is the one most often cited:
When examining the feedback effects between populations, agriculture and environment, we are speaking of Africa’s survival…. First feature: the population explosion, the most striking phenomenon presently and in the future of the African continent…. The impact of this explosion? It is already terrible today and predictions suggest catastrophe if nothing is done.
