ABSTRACT
Festivals exist in almost every town and village in Italy and cover the presentation of an enormous range of music from opera and contemporary classical music to rock, jazz and world music. Many of the most famous festivals take place annually in the summer and autumn months, and become tourist attractions in their own right through the quality of the international artists they attract. Festivals often receive support from local and national government sources in recognition of the artistic and commercial benefits that flow from such events.
