ABSTRACT

Bob Black was born in Dublin, studied and taught economics at Trinity College, before moving to Queen’s University of Belfast as part of a general reorganisation of the staff following the retirement of H.O.Meredith from the Chair in 1943. He remained on the staff at Queen’s for the remainder of his career, until his retirement in 1985. He spent many years editing the Jevons’ Papers and Correspondence, and he is a recognised authority on the history of Irish economics, although he had not initially intended to develop such a specialism as a historian of economics. The following is an edited version of an interview conducted on 16 October 1994 at his home in Belfast.
