ABSTRACT
In this chapter we examine three related issues that are associated with achievement in schools, namely social class, poverty and parental educational levels. We focus on a number of studies that have explored these key issues and their relationship to educational achievement. We conclude by examining the factors that may help to explain differences in achievement.
