ABSTRACT

In the week between her death in a car crash in Paris and her funeral service in London, the airwaves were dominated by the story. Music-based stations dropped their normal playlists and switched to low-key ballads. Talk-based stations scrapped their schedules and many ran phone-in programmes that allowed people to express their loss and share their memories of Diana. The issues behind her death – individual privacy, the Royal Family’s treatment of Diana, the media manipulation of the tragedy – were also discussed and analysed with experts on the constitution and psychology adding their voices to those of the public.
