ABSTRACT

Finding out about radio can be done by reading books on the subject and trade magazines like Broadcast or Media Week, but more important is actually listening to a range of different stations and programmes to find out what is available and compare different styles. It is particularly important to know the programmes, area covered and target audience of any station you hope to work on, even voluntarily. ‘We used to get a lot of people contacting us to ask if they could help on the programme,’ says Emma Clifford, a producer and presenter at BBC Radio Nottingham.1
