ABSTRACT
Any restructuring of agriculture requires renegotiation and recomposition of spatial relationships at multiple geographical scales. These relationships produce and reproduce institutions that ensure:
the organisation of the farming sector and the recruitment of its labour force;
access to land, farming knowledge, practices, and infrastructure;
customary commercial practices and linkages between input manufacturers, farms, processors, and marketing firms;
capital and risk markets;
and government policies.
