ABSTRACT

JACQUELINE LESSCHAEVE: Merce Cunningham, the choreography for classical or modern dancers follows often predictable sequences: mainly soloists doing variations in relation to (or against) a background of a group of dancers. You deliberately broke with that procedure of repeating familiar sequences, and you involved yourself in exploring the range of possible movements. Starting with one of your recent dances, could we take note in some detail of what differentiates it from the older, more traditional forms?
