Measuring success

Rachel’s words are a reminder that the staff have great hopes for drama. Introducing drama was more to do with addressing a broad range of needs and concerns, as identified in Chapter 1, rather than with introducing an additional arts subject into an already crowded curriculum. This range stretched from concerns about pupils’ lack of respect for each other (particularly in terms of gender, religious and ethnic differences) to a need for staff to rekindle and use their own creativity to make the curriculum more relevant and engaging for pupils.
