ABSTRACT
Denmark has a working population of three million people with a total population of 5.2 million. Only half a million are employed in the manufacturing sector, while almost one million are employed in the service sector. Forty per cent of the working population are women. In 1990, the unemployment rate was 9.7 per cent, but this rate had decreased to circa 6 per cent in 1998. The unemployment rate among unskilled workers has been relatively high (circa 16 per cent in 1997).
