ABSTRACT

In Chapter 2 the stage was set for a closer examination of changes in real estate advisory services, which is the subject of this chapter. The changes such firms encountered as they entered the international marketplace point out the factors that provided competitive advantages for some real estate advisory services, such as: • The relationship between real estate services and domestic economies

and national real estate markets. • The importance of recruiting skilled professionals. • The influence of government policy on competition. • The role of supporting industries. • The role of multinational corporations in international trade. • The internationalization of financial markets and investment vehicles. • The importance of adapting organizational structure to domestic and

international business needs. As this chapter will show, competitive advantage belonged to those firms that first established a strong reputation domestically, recruited skilled personnel, and used a decentralized, multi-division organization in foreign expansion.
