ABSTRACT

In the case study it can be seen that unless Elise starts as she means to go on, the team may end up as several groups, all of whom may be strongly committed to their work but none of whom may feel they are part of the wider team. It is important for Elise to have a Vision’ that she wants to achieve. Her task is to look at where the team is now and plan where she wants them to progress to. Before embarking on a team-building cycle it would be helpful to look at some of the characteristics of an undeveloped team as any team leader must recognise some of the symptoms of an undeveloped team before she or he is able to build their team. Table 3.2 shows some of these symptoms and possible solutions.
