ABSTRACT

We examine some of the problems that occur in a school where the staff are understandably nervous when changes are put in place without the benefit of consultation or discussion. We go on to consider ways of developing cohesiveness and ask the reader to think of a familiar scenario-that of the integration of staff for organisational rather than personal reasons. The reader is asked to consider the ways in which individual behaviour and attitudes can be understood; the ways in which groups work and the ways the performance of groups impact on organisational effectiveness.
