ABSTRACT

CMO is a diagnosis based on the clinical appearance of the macula and intravenous fundus fluorescein angiography features. Prompt diagnosis is valuable as early treatment may result in resolution of the oedema and restoration of macular anatomy and function. Late diagnosis results in permanent distortion of the anatomy with an associated reduction of retinal function. Treatment may not be effective and in some cases involves significant side effects. In some diseases there is debate about management protocols for CMO.
