ABSTRACT

The neurocristopathies are a group of embryological disorders in which there is dysgenesis of structures derived from the neural crest. Sequential waves of neural crest cells form the corneal endothelium and stroma, trabecular meshwork, iris, lens, most of the sclera, melanocytes, ciliary muscles, choroidal stroma and the ciliary ganglion. Defects in this process will lead to anterior segment dysgenesis.
