ABSTRACT
The severity of optic atrophy in children may vary from an incidental finding that will not affect quality of life to a portent of blinding or life-threatening disease. The diagnosis may also be made difficult in children by confusion with disorders mimicking atrophy, such as Bergemeister’s papilla, myopia and optic nerve hypoplasia.
