ABSTRACT

Iridocorneal endothelial (ICE) syndrome, also termed primary proliferative endotheliopathy, is a group of conditions which are difficult to classify and may be regarded as either a dystrophy or dysplasia of the corneal endothelium. A common feature is degeneration of endothelial cells, with an associated proliferation of the remaining endothelial cells (ICE-cells). This endothelial cell-basement membrane complex encroaches the drainage angle and the anterior surface of the iris resulting in angle obstruction, peripheral anterior synechiae (PAS), secondary glaucoma, iris distortion and corneal oedema.
