ABSTRACT

Syriac theologian, writer, hymnographer. Aba was one of the early Syriac theologians from the circle of Ephraem of Syria. Syriac bibliographers have attributed to him a Commentary on the Diatessaron, a sermon on Job, and commentary material on the Psalms. He is the first Syriac writer known to have composed in five-syllable verse rather than the standard seven-syllable. Fragments, apparently from none of the above works, were edited and translated by Edmund Beck on the basis of the Sinai St. Catherine Syriac MS 67. A new edition with English translation is in preparation.
