ABSTRACT

Gnostic sect(s). The only account of the Naassenes is found in Hippolytus (Haer. 5.6.3-11.1 and summarized at 10.9.1-3). The Naassenes adhered to a Gnostic system that described the generation of the world through three principles, a teaching also found in the Megale Apophasis and in descriptions of the Peratae, the Sethians/Archontics, and the Docetists.
