ABSTRACT

Church historian. Walker was born in Portland, Maine; graduated from Amherst College in 1883 and Hartford Theological Seminary in 1886; received his doctorate from the University of Leipzig in 1888. Returning to the United States, he taught for one year at Bryn Mawr College, then for twelve years at Hartford Theological Seminary. In 1901, he succeeded George Park Fisher as Titus Street Professor of Ecclesiastical History at Yale, a position he held until his death.
