This chapter invites you to consider several aspects of the development of the individual. The responses of individuals to teaching and learning are unique, partly because of the physical environment in which they have been nurtured and partly through their genetic features. In some cases, children need particular support; thus Unit 4.6 discusses the provision of Special Educational Needs. In addition, cultural influences provide them with a set of practices and values, which together interact with both the teacher and the curriculum and affect learning.
