ABSTRACT

Defin itions of self-esteem and self-concept W e all carry around w ith us an image o f w ho w e are, w ho we have been and the type o f person w e have the possibility o f becoming. Psychologists have spent m uch time researching in this area. At this point it is helpful to look at some definitions. Lawrence (1996) feels that there are three aspects o f the self:

• Behaviour. W hat we do. H ow we present ourselves to others. • Affect. H ow we feel about ourselves. • Cognition. H ow we think about ourselves.
