Learning strategies as a way to p ro m o te effective learning From our own experience as both a learner and as someone w ho works within a classroom we know that there are many different ways o f teaching. A teacher will know and use a variety o f methods to support learning. For example, how were you taught your times tables? Did you have to stand up w ith your class and recite your times tables? W ere you taught your times tables as a class or did you w ork your way through math-cards? H ow are children today taught the times tables? The art o f teaching or supporting learning is knowing a variety o f methods and more importantly knowing when to use them. In this chapter w hen we talk about ways or methods o f teaching w e will be talking about learning support strategies. It is the aim o f this chapter to outline a variety o f learning support strategies.
