Attica I: From Athens to Sounion and in the Mesogeia

E very visitor to Greece tries to see the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion. The site is justly famous both for its shining white ruins and for itsimpressive position on the southern tip of Attica. An excursion to Sounion is also very worthwhile because there are some sites of interest and beauty to visit on the road from Athens to Sounion (the so-called Apollo Coast, with many good beaches), which decisively round off the picture of Attica, although they are less well known. They include small ancient local sanctuaries, a sacred cave, country villas, Early Greek settlements, etc., all set in the picturesque landscape of south Attica with its juxtaposition of coastal coves and high rising mountains.
