ABSTRACT
It is the first author’s intention to focus on the university (Loughborough) that he worked at – first as a lecturer, and then as Head of the Sports Development Centre from 1997 to 2003. Whilst Loughborough is not wholly typical of Higher Education Institutions, in that it has an exceptional commitment to sports development, most HEIs can contribute to elements of sports development, as the second author’s work with Universities UK (Collins, 2004a) showed.
