Bisexuality and Celebrity

When we are told that legendary screen lover Errol Flynn was bisexual and that he spent "an enjoyable night" with the eighteen-year-old Truman Capote, we tend to shrug it off as Hollywood excess. Capote himself is said to have remarked to Marilyn Monroe, when asked whether he had a good time, "If it hadn't been Errol Flynn, I wouldn't even have remembered it."* Flynn, Dietrich, Garland, Tyrone Power, Car?; Grant, James Dean-the bisexuals of the Golden Age of Holljwood were as numerous and as omnivorous as the rock-and-pop bisexuals of Glitter and the Sexual Revolution-Bowie, Jagger, Joplin, Elton John-or the postmodern "bisexuals" of MTV and David Letterman-Madonna and Sandra Bernhard.
