ABSTRACT
In this [chapter 12 on the Roots of Artificial Intelligence] and the following chapters [of Models of My Life] I will give a blow-by-blow account of our research during 1955 and 1956, and place it in the intellectual atmosphere, the zeitgeist, within which it took place.
