ABSTRACT
Many environmental problems arise from the simple fact that, through time, people put more and more pressure on environmental resources and environmental systems. This is partly because of rising numbers, but it also reflects rising expectations and changing lifestyles. In this section, we explore the key processes that give rise to population growth and consider the evidence for and implications of continued growth worldwide.
