ABSTRACT
Paradox An apparently selfcontradictory statement, though one which is essentially true. Two examples of paradox may help to demonstrate its special significance in modern thought (Schopenhauer, Shaw):
The more unintelligent a man is, the less mysterious existence seems to him. The man who listens to reason is lost: reason enslaves all whose minds are not strong enough to master her.
