ABSTRACT

This book has for the most part focused on the ways in which the Commonwealth Government assists sport and guides its operation through the ASC. However, there are also a number of instances where the government has directly legislated to control the operation of a specific sport or sport-related activity. The most constrained sport in Australia is boxing which is regulated under detailed state government legislation. The legislation requires boxing promoters to undertake health checks on all boxers, and ensure a medical officer is in attendance. Boxers must also obtain medical clearance before they can enter the ring. The martial arts are also tightly constrained.
