ABSTRACT

Learning is an inevitable part of life; indeed, it is essential for survival. Although we all learn through many media, some media are more the domains of women than of men. This chapter explores learning through two such areas: fabric crafts and fashion. At first glance, some might label the focus of these case studies as inconsequential, trivial, retrogressive, and frivolous or marginal to this book’s focus. However, as this chapter will demonstrate, both are deeply connected to it. Indeed, throughout history and in tune with various cultural customs, men, women, boys and girls have learned their lives through fabric crafts and fashion.
