ABSTRACT

FE colleges play a significant role in the life of their local communities and beyond; indeed some that specialise in certain courses attract students on a national basis. The range of people who come through the college doors, as we saw in Chapter 2, represents the diversity of the college’s geographical, socioeconomic and cultural location. Reaching out from the college, the links into the community will include outreach centres for teaching and access-related services, partnerships with local schools and HEIs, and a range of mechanisms for relating to the world of business and industry. As a college lecturer, therefore, you will be constantly aware of the wider world beyond your immediate teaching room.
