ABSTRACT
Not only macrocosmic but also microcosmic changes will be needed to ensure that the American democracy far more closely approaches its inspiring rhetoric. As the social philosopher Mary P. Follett has said, “we must live democracy” (quoted in Tonn, 2003, p. 301).
