ABSTRACT

Training to become a teacher is often a roller-coaster of positive and less than positive experiences. There are so many and varied demands throughout the period of training, but especially when on school placement. Planning the learning experiences of numerous pupils and classes, standing in front of a class for the first time, dealing with less than enthusiastic pupils , making sense of the plethora of advice being offered, marking and assessing umpteen essays, artefacts and newspaper articles all by tomorrow is what makes the year such a memorable one. This chapter celebrates the most positive experiences, helpful advice and those special moments which enabled the student teachers to rise and meet their greatest challenges as they learned about teaching.
