ABSTRACT
This article was categorised in the introductory chapter as adopting documentary analysis to analyse institutional management. Like the article by Jenkins and Ward (2001), also included in this Reader, it is somewhat unusual in focusing on the organizational experience of higher education, though in this case at the institutional rather than the departmental level. It is also, like that article, historical in approach, though the emphasis is again on recent history.
