ABSTRACT

Does motivation matter? Most teachers prefer students who want to take part and learn science. They say that this kind of learner is motivated. Some teachers believe that motivation is entirely the student’s responsibility. When planning lessons, they think about explanations and questions, the equipment they need and what the homework will be: all basic ingredients of a good plan. Then they meet real students. You can give all your time to planning the perfect lesson, but if it ignores motivation, you will be lucky if you get away with it. Student motivation has to underpin your plan. If you disregard it, all your planning and organisation can count for nothing-so, yes, motivation matters.
