ABSTRACT

Teachers are used to being told to do more, or to do it in less time, and to do it better, particularly where the raising of standards is concerned. Unlike the whiting or the snail we can’t choose whether or not to join this particular dance. The unbelievable (and probably unsustainable) rise in Key Stage 2 results has created an irresistible pressure at Key Stage 3. We all want to raise standards, even if in practice this means teaching to the test, and using a range of strategies to achieve this goal.
