What are trainee teachers looking for in their first posts?

We conducted a survey of a sample of our trainees towards the end of the course in 2002 to see what they were looking for in their first post. They were asked what factors were most influential in terms of getting them to make an application for a teaching post and what factors were the most influential in persuading them to accept a particular teaching post. The results are summarised in Tables 4.1 and 4.2.
