ABSTRACT

The final two chapters of this book make an interesting comparison. Rather like one of those books where readers can make up their own ending; here readers are encouraged to consider both the chapters and make their own decisions as to which they see as being most appropriate to their current situation. Juan-Miguel Fernández-Balboa takes a postmodern stance in describing a brave new world of physical education/activity provision. He clearly takes Kirk’s (in Jewett et al. 1995) arguments further than many have taken them before. Is this a step too far? We will not know until we get there, but Fernández-Balboa’s predictions should have a chilling effect on any teachers of physical education who read them. At the very least, they will cause reflection and pause for thought, and doubt, within the profession.
