ABSTRACT
There has been much discussion of sustainability in the academic literature over the last ten years. Over the same period a number of practical initiatives addressing tourism and the environment have been established, trying to put some of the theory into practice. This chapter uses the case study of Scotland’s Tourism and the Environment Task Force and one of the local Tourism Management Programmes (TMPs) to try to evaluate what progress such initiatives are making towards their stated aim of developing sustainable tourism.
