ABSTRACT

As discussed in Chapter 1, achieving the goals of SGT has such enormous educational benefits that it is essential that every effort is made to ensure that the correct conditions for achieving them are met. Clearly the skills of the facilitator are of major importance but these will be left for Chapter 3, where they can be examined in more detail. Here we will concentrate on describing the practical, organizational and interpersonal conditions that will allow the group to reach its optimal potential. If these conditions can be met, an effective small group will be produced that will achieve deep learning.
