ABSTRACT

Imagine what might happen in young children’s lives and their learning if every person employed to work with young children had the:

• skills to intervene in children’s lives and in their learning in ways that are critically informed by the leading edge of social thinking and theory of their time. In this time that would include the social and political theories of feminists, poststructuralists, postcolonialists, critical and cultural theorists;

• passion to advocate policies based on social justice that aim to give young children respectful, equitable and joyful lives;

• commitment to act with children and the adults in their lives to create progressive social change and to extend democracy;

• commitment to embed children’s rights in all that they do in the name of children.
