ABSTRACT
There are indefinitely many other cases yielding a different probability. But this does not show there is really no probability at all. When the method of random selection is adequately specified, a determinate answer is available. So the proper response to Bertrand’s original question is: what is the mechanism for selecting the chord randomly? And in general there is no one method to be preferred.
