ABSTRACT

In this chapter we consider how schools can develop their assessment practice in the light of the significant research findings outlined in the rest of this book. We make suggestions of strategies and techniques that schools and teachers can discuss and try out. These are not ready-made, ‘off-the-shelf’ instant solutions to raising standards that will work for everyone. Some will work in your school, with your teachers and pupils, others won’t. The research asks questions and can suggest routes to explore, but the issues are complex and the contexts are different. Change will take time and may be frustrating. However, what is clear from the research is that a number of key factors can help teachers use assessment to promote learning.
