ABSTRACT

This book largely concerns the well-researched area of workplace bullying and is divided into four parts. The first part is concerned with the problem of operational definitions and attempts to bring them together to enable the derivation of a model of adult bullying that enables a robust structure to guide assessment. The second and third parts examine the developmental and interpersonal experiences that are associated with the shaping of bully/ victim traits and which may be unleashed by environmental contingencies. The final part deals with the clinical consequences of severe adult bullying and endeavours to unite settings, antecedents, behaviour and consequences through examples of assessment outcome. Inevitably such a structuring is forced and does not properly reflect the complexities of adult bullying but it has facilitated my own work with bullies and their victims.
